Tongues and Savage/Love, two plays by Joseph Chaikin and Sam Shepard, will be featured in a multi-media performance. The plays, first performed in 1985 by Joseph Chalking were the result of an ongoing collaboration with Sam Shepherd and will be performed in Victoria by professor/actor Steve Young of Pomona College (California), percussionist Kelby McNayr (Victoria) and composer/cellist Tom Flaherty (California) who provides original music for the performance. Tongues consists of a layered monologue, while Savage/love links individual moments to express a range of romantic feeling, from fearfulness, self-forgetfulness to devotion. The performances will feature sculptures by Mowry Baden, who has altered two of his 'transformative' pieces for use in the production.
